Anantnag man injured in Jammu blast succumbs

SRINAGAR, (PTK): One more civilian who has been identified as Mohammad Rayeez S/O Mohammad Amin – a resident of Mattan area of district Anantnag. Rayeez had sustained injuries in Jammu grenade blast yesterday and succumbed to injuries this night in Jammu hospital.

With death of Rayeez, the death toll of yesterday’s Jammu blast in which thirty civilians were injured has mounted to two.

Witnesses said that a youth hurled the grenade towards a J&K State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) bus and it exploded on the road beneath it, smashing its windscreens.

Within hours of the incident, police arrested a suspected Hizbul Mujahideen militant for the explosion however Hizb denied of claiming this attack saying that this attack was carried out by Indian Agencies. They also said that attacking civilians is not “our agenda”.

Director general of police Dilbag Singh said that the person who threw the grenade has been arrested.

Inspector general of police, Jammu, M.K. Sinha said that the accused Yasir Butt was tasked to throw the grenade by Farooq Ahmed Butt alias Omar, the Hizb’s district commander for Kulgam.

The third grenade attack by militants on Jammu bus stand since May last comes just three weeks after the Pulwama militant strike on February 14 that killed over 40 CRPF men bringing India and Pakistan on brink of war.

Governor Satya Pal Malik, terming it as a “cowardly dreadful act”, said that he strongly condemns it. He asked the agencies concerned to ensure that those responsible for this act are brought to justice. He announced an ex-gratia of `5 lakh to the next of the kin of the deceased and ` 20,000 each to those injured in the accident. (PTK)
