SRINAGAR, (PTK): The firing has stopped after 34-hours in Babagund village of Handwara in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
According to reports coming in here,the firing has stopped this morning after 34-hours of exchange of fire during which four security personnel got killed including a CRPF officer and two Jammu and Kashmir Policemen . There is no official confirmation yet about killing of any militant.
The gunfight broke out between militants and security forces on Thursday-Friday night at around 12:30 am after a search team of forces reached a suspected place where from hiding militants fired upon forces .
The exchange of fire continued Friday day and night and fresh firing resumed on Saturday morning .On Friday evening, a militant who acted like dead started firing upon forces when the came near to him during which four forces personals lost life while as eleven sustained injuries.
Soon after the encounter, clashes between youth and government forces broke out near the gunfight site as youth tried to disturb operation. During these clashes many civilians sustained injuries among which a youth who was identified as Waseem Akber succumbed. According to reports, clashes are still going on in the area.
Meanwhile, Langate and Handwara towns of North Kashmir are observing a complete shutdown against the civilian killing. (PTK)
