SRINAGAR, (PTK): One CRPF officer, one JK Police cop has been killed in ongoing gun-battle between militants and security forces in Babagund village of Handwara while as five personnel have sustained injuries .
According to sources, a militant presumed dead earlier and when forces came near to him , he fired indiscriminately.
The gunfight that started at around 12:00 am today in Babagund village of Langate in Kupwara district of North Kashmir has now entered seventeenth hour .
According to reports coming in here , indiscriminate exchange of fire is going on and it was believed that few militants were holed up in the area .
This gunfight started after joint team of forces that include 1RR of Army and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police started search operation in Babagund village. During the search operation , when forces reached a suspected place the hiding militants fired upon security forces which triggered a gunfight . Reports said that two unidentified militants have got killed so far in this gunfight while as a few are still holed up . However , officials didn’t confirmed the killing of any militant.
Soon after the news about killing of two militants spread in Babagund and nearby areas , thousands of people including women and children started marching towards gunfight with intention of disturbing the operation and started pelting stones on forces who are engaged in encounter . Forces resorted to teargas shelling , pellet firing and aerial firing to disperse the people .The clashes are going intensively in the area while as a few youth have received pellet injuries.
Meanwhile, a complete shutdown is being observed in Langate and Handwara townships while as forces have imposed restrictions in both the towns. (PTK)
