Valley shuts over fresh arrest spree, assault of article 35A

SRINAGAR, FEB 24 (PTK): Giving a strong response to shutdown call of Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), the Kashmir valley observed a complete shutdown on Sunday against the fresh arrest spree.

The people in most of the parts of valley stayed in homes while as the shopkeepers kept their shops closed.

The traffic movement also remained suspended.

In Central Kashmir all the three districts of Central Kashmir observed a complete shutdown and the shops and business establishments remained closed.

Reports reaching PTK from Srinagar said that all business establishments remained off throughout the district while as a few vehicles were seen moving on the roads.

Similar were the reports received from Budgam.

According to reports all major towns in the district witnessed a complete shutdown whereas roads remained deserted.

The situation in Ganderbal was no better. The Ganderbal district of Central Kashmir too responded strongly to the leadership’s call.

In North Kashmir the all three districts of North Kashmir remained shut on JRL’s call .

In every town of Baramulla, the shutters of shops remained down while as roads remained deserted.

The frontier district Kupwara too gave a strong response to the shutdown call.

Most of the markets remained closed and traffic movement was off.

Bandipora district too observed a complete shutdown.

In South Kashmir as like Central and North Kashmir, the volatile South Kashmir too remained shut on JRL’s call.

The markets of Pulwama district remained closed while as the traffic movement remained off.

Markets throughout Shopian district remained shut and traffic movement remained frozen.

The shops remained closed in Anantnag district. Negligible traffic movement was seen in the district.

Kulgam district of South Kashmir gave a huge response to the shutdown call as the markets and traffic remained off throughout the district.

Moreover, deployment of forces was made in the sensitive places.

Yesterday, JRL called for a complete shutdown over the crackdown against the Jamaat-e-Islami leadership.

Pertinently , hundreds of Jamaat-e-Islami members were arrested including it’s Chief Dr. Hameed Fayaz. (PTK)
