SRINAGAR, (PTK): In a massive announcement, Union Water resources, River development and water resources minister Nitin Gadkari has tweeted that the Modi government has decided to stop the share of water that used to flow into Pakistan and divert it for the use of people in J&K and the Punjab.
Taking to Twitter, Gadkari, who had also spoken of the impending move earlier in the day when he said that the water from three rivers flowing into Pakistan would be used to nurture the Yamuna, has written:
Under the leadership of Hon'ble PM Sri @narendramodi ji, Our Govt. has decided to stop our share of water which used to flow to Pakistan. We will divert water from Eastern rivers and supply it to our people in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab.

He has elaborated on the specifics of this move, highlighting the construction of a dam and how this decision will be actualised:
The construction of dam has started at Shahpur- Kandi on Ravi river. Moreover, UJH project will store our share of water for use in J&K and the balance water will flow from 2nd Ravi-BEAS Link to provide water to other basin states.

Gadkari has added that the associated projects have now been declared as national projects.
