SRINAGAR: A play called ‘Eidgah Ke Jinnat’ (Djinns of Eidgah) was called off in Jaipur after protests from a fringe group, Jan Samasya Nivaran Manch, which dubbed the play ‘anti-Army’ and ‘anti-national.’
The play was slated to be held in Jaipur’s Jawahar Kala Kendra on Monday, 18 February.
In a notice released by additional director of Jawahar Kala Kendra, it was confirmed that the play stood cancelled. The notice, however, did not specify the reason behind cancellation of the play.
The play is based on stone pelters in Jammu and Kashmir and emphasises the role of the Indian Army in the region, reported India Today.
The protests were triggered due to one of the dialogues in the play depicting the Indian Army as draconian and showing the security forces in a bad light, the report said, adding that the play had an “objectionable and offensive” reference to Lord Hanuman, which also invited flak from the group.
