Sohan Gurdwara offers Shelter to over 300 Kashmiri students

Chandigarh, Srinagar, (PTK): Fearing for their safety after the Pulwama attack that killed 40 CRPF men, around 300 Kashmiri students from several Indian states have moved to Punjab where local Kashmiri students have offered them temporary safe shelters.

Almost 70 students from Dehradun and Ambala arrived in Punjab’s Mohali Sunday where local Kashmiri students have made arrangements for their lodging and boarding.

They were lying to their families that they were safe when they were clearly not. People are hurling abuses at these students. In some areas, a group of people forcibly entered their room and beat them up, only because they belong to Kashmir. With the tensions mounting up since the Pulwama attack, the Kashmiri students were asked to vacate their rooms by their landlords.  Conditions forced them to flee. They took shelter in Sohana Gurdwara on Monday.

More than 300 Kashmiri students reached Mohali for their safety while on their way to Jammu & Kashmir.  The former president of the Gurdwara’s management committee told the media that whatever happened in Pulwama is wrong in every way, but one cannot target students. That is why they are there to help them. The gurdwara had provided them half- a dozen rooms. The gurdwara is serving them langar. (PTK)
