Muslims of Kashmir will stay with India: Muzaffar Baig

SRINAGAR, (PTK): Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Patron Muzaffar Hussain Baig here Thursday said Kashmiri Muslims would vote for India if the United Nations-mandated plebiscite was conducted in Jammu Kashmir.

Speaking in one day conference ‘Kashmir: The Way Forward’ organised by the Observer Research Foundation in New Delhi, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Patron Muzaffar Hussain Baig said that Kashmiri Muslims are with India and this fact cannot be changed at any forum Jammukashmirnow reported.

He added, “I believe Muslims of Kashmir will stay with India as there is no option of remaining independent”. Baig said “There has been a radical transformation in the nature of dissent since 1947”.

“The choice in front of the people in J&K is not between India and Pakistan but between paradise and hell.” He lamented that no secular voices are being heard “But those who kill make the headlines and the aspirations of the common Kashmiris remains unheard in this process”.

He even said that though he was initially supportive of third front in the state but the situation has changed now and he does not believe in third front led by Sajjad Lone.

They (youth and children) and their mothers and people who come out in thousands to protest think if a youth dies in stone pelting, he is a martyr and he will go to paradise,”said Baig.

He said “Today when a 14-year-old child dies, his mother thinks he will go to paradise. They don’t come out and die for the United Nations resolutions on Kashmir but they die to achieve martyrdom”.

He revealed that “This is the situation in Kashmir today. Today’s youth has control of situation, whether it is hatred against India or there is ISI, whatever may be the cause, but these people are dying with a religious purpose”. He said though separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani asked the youth in 2010 not to throw stones on security forces yet they did not listen to him Jammukashmirnow reported.

Baig said “Kashmir youth would pelt Mughal soldiers with stones. It is nothing new”.
