SRINAGAR, DEC 27 (PTK): Scores of residents of Dar Ganie Gund Village of Tral area of south Kashmir’s pulwama district staged a protest against the alleged failure of Public Health Engineering (PHE) department in providing drinking water to residents.
The protesters which included women said they had been facing shortage of water for the past couple of days.
Protestors said they have brought the matter to the notice of concerned authorities but nothing has been done to restore water supply in the area.
“With the onset of winter season and chilai kalaan the service of PHE department changed from bad to worse, Now PHE also joined the race of PDD” , locals said.
They raised slogans against the said department and alleged that the people of this area are facing lot of difficulties as for the last five days as the department failed to restore the water supply in their area. They further said that several times they made request to the officer of the concerned department but they made fake promises with them.
“From the past few days, the water supply in our area is not sufficient and we are suffering to meet our basic requirements. On the other hand, the PHE Department has shown no concern over our plight.” locals of the village added.
“We are unable to offer a single glass of water to guests and even our children are ridiculed, as they sometimes have to remain without a bath,” a local jamia masjid imam expressed.
Meanwhile Assistant engineer (AE) PHE Awantipora, Nisar Ahmad when contacted regarding this concern said, “We are trying our best to provide uninterrupted supply to consumers, but the water reservoir being located in the lap of hills and due to dip in temperature water freezes and we are unable to provide the supply in freezed condition”.
“We have to take care of pipes also , As the water freezes during night hours. We have to emptize the pipes so as to prevent the pipes from bursting and cracking”, ye added. (PTK)
