SRINAGAR, DEC 16 (PTK): A complete shutdown is being observed across Kashmir Valley on Sunday following the killing of seven civilians and three militants in forces action at Pulwama.
Reports said that all shops and business establishments are closed while traffic too is off the roads. The shutdown was called by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) against the Pulwama killings.
Meanwhile, the district administration has impose restrictions in Srinagar and Pulwama areas to prevent any possible protests.
Officials said that the restrictions have been imposed in Srinagar areas falling under the jurisdiction of Nowhatta, Khanyar, Rainawari, Safa Kadal, Maharaj Gunj and Maisuma police stations especially in old city areas to thwart any possible protests called by JRL.
“The restrictions have been imposed as a precautionary measure,” they said.
Mobile internet service of all cellular companies, including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), remained suspended for the second day in Kashmir as a precautionary measure.
However, the broadband internet service is working though with a very low speed in the valley.
Meanwhile authorities at Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) have postponed the examinations slated for Monday (December 17).
The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to avoid any law and order situation at the campus.
A spokesman of the varsity said new dates for the deferred exams will be notified later separately.
He said the class work will also remain suspended at the IUST campus.
Earlier, the JRL had called for three-day shutdown against the killing of seven civilians in post gunfight clashes at Pulwama. Three militants and an Army man were also killed in the gunfight that raged in the wee hours on Saturday in Sirnoo village of Pulwama district.
Reports of restrictions have also poured in from various areas of Pulwama district. (PTK)
