PESHAWAR: The 4th anniversary of heinous terrorist attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar is being observed today (Sunday).
In the most brutal attack in the country’s history, 147 people, mostly students, were killed by six terrorists in APS Peshawar on 16 December, 2014. The attackers were also gunned down in an Army operation.
The pictures of the APS martyrs have been displayed on the roads in Peshawar on the occasion of the fourth anniversary. A special function has been arranged at the Army Public School today to pay homage to the martyred students and teachers of the school. The Pakistan Army has arranged the function and invitation cards have been sent to the guests on behalf of Corps Commander Peshawar Lt Gen Shaheen Mazhar Mehmood.
Strict security measures have been taken on the occasion. Similar functions will also be arranged in other parts of the country.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan said in his statement that sacrifices of the students will always be remembered. He said the tragic incident shows the brutality of terrorist mindset. He said the security forces and the whole nation are united to eliminate the menace of terrorism from the society. He said the provincial government will always extend helping hand to the bereaved families of the APS carnage.
The PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in his message pledged to continue resistance against terrorism.
Bilawal said that blood of innocent children of shall continue to haunt entire nation until the monster terrorism, sponsors and facilitators are completely wiped out from the country. He said all those who were martyred in the gruesome attack on APS were national heroes and heroines and their sacrifices will not go in vain.
‘Wounds caused by APS carnage hadn’t healed’
The ANP President Asfandyar Wali Khan said the deep wounds caused by the brutal killing of the APS students hadn’t healed even four years after the attack.
Asfandyar said the state had failed to bring before the nation the actual motive behind the massacre. He said peace can’t be restored in the country until the elimination of sanctuaries of terrorists.
The ANP General Secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain said it is impossible for him to forget the APS carnage. He said the tragic scenes of the APS attack would remain with the parents and witnesses in particular and society in general forever.
