Mujgund Encounter: Police version

December 09: A search operation was launched yesterday jointly by Police and security forces based on a credible input about the presence of militants at Mujgund area on Bandipora Road.

During the search operation, the search party was fired upon by the hiding terrorists. The fire was retaliated leading to a gunfight. In the initial exchange of fire one army jawan sustained injuries and was shifted to hospital for medical treatment.

In the ensuing encounter, three terrorists were neutralized and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. Identities and affiliations of the killed militants are being ascertained.

Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. Police has registered a case and initiated investigation in the matter.

Citizens are requested not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosives materials if any

Apropos our earlier press release regarding the encounter at Mujgund, it is further informed that the killed militants have been identified as Mudasir Rashid Parray of Hajin Bandipora, Saqib Bilal Sheikh of Hajin Bandipora and from the material evidence collected, one terrorist is learnt to be a Pakistani identified as Ali.

The trio were affiliated with proscribed outfit LeT.

The killed militants were wanted by the law for their complicity in terror crimes. Ali according to police records was involved in several crimes and several cases were registered against him including attacks on security establishments and civilian atrocities. He was involved in recruitments in Hajin and Sumbal areas of Bandipora.

In the initial exchange of fire, one army solider was injured who is admitted in hospital. Three civilians also sustained injuries as the area was in open and the injured were shifted to hospital for medical treatment. They are stated to be stable.

Huge quantity of arms & ammunition including rifles were recovered from the site of encounter. All these materials have been taken in the case records for further investigation and probe their complicity in other cases.

Citizens are once again requested not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosives materials.
