Killing of militants in Budgam gunfight triggers protest, clashes in parts of Valley

SRINAGAR, NOV 28 (PTK): Following the killing of two militants including top LeT commander Naveed Jatt  during a gunfight in Chatergam area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Wednesday clashes broke out in different parts of Kashmir valley.

In South Kashmir’s Pulwama Clashes have erupted in Pulwama town of South Kashmir. Reports said that scores of youth shouting pro-freedom and anti-India slogans hit the streets and threw stones on forces deployed in the area.

Meanwhile shopkeepers in Pulwama and Pampore area downed their shutters as a mark of protest against the killing of Lashkar commander. In Budgam Scores of persons were injured during intense clashes with the government forces in Kuthpora Chadoora near Chattergam area of Budgam district.

Reports said that soon after the gunfight broke out scores of the youth took to streets and clashed with the forces. Forces resorted to tear gas and pellets to chase away the protestors and resulting in injuries to several protesters.

During the clashes, the witnesses said, more than 15 people have suffered injuries. Among the injured one person has suffered pellet injury in the eye while another has suffered a bullet injury in the thigh. “Three injured have been referred to Srinagar’s SMHS hospital for treatment,” BMO Chattergam confirmed.

In Kashmir university hundreds of students from different departments offered funeral prayers in absentia to the top Lashkar commander Naveed Jatt and his associate inside the varsity.

Reports said that scores of the students from various departments took out the protest march from in the Varsity. The protesting students later assembled at the premises of the varsity and offered the prayers in absentia for the slain militants.

Meanwhile, the students of Government Bemina Degree College held a protest demonstration against the killing of slain Lashkar commander Naveed Jatt. Reports said students raised “pro-freedom and anti-India” slogans and marched through the campus and onto the main road.

Earlier, a gunfight broke out after a joint team of army and SOG cordoned off Kuthpora village of Chattergam and ended up with the killing of two militants including top Lashkar commander Naveed Jatt.

Meanwhile, mobile internet service has been suspended in the district, while train service across Kashmir has also been suspended. (PTK)
