Khanmoh observes shutdown against arrest of two brothers

SRINAGAR, NOV 15 (PTK): A complete shutdown amid protests was observed in Khanmoh area of Panthachowk in Srinagar outskirts against the arrest of two brothers during a  raid by government forces Tuesday night.

Reports said scores of people took to the streets and staged protests against the arrest of two brothers by government forces. Local said that shops and business establishments were closed and transport was off the roads in the area.

The two brothers identified as Hilal Ahmad Ganaie and Mohammad Iqbal Ganaie, both residents of Khanmoh were arrested by government forces during night raids on Tuesday night after their sister was arrested by government forces along with 20 grenades and other arms ammunition at Lawaypora.

Police claimed to have arrested Asiya along with 20 grenades and live rounds while she was aboard a vehicle at Lawaypora area on the outskirts of Srinagar city.

Asiya is the daughter of a slain Hizbul Mujahideen militant, Muhammad Ramzan Ganai alias Akhtar. Akhtar to sources was a Hizbul commander and was killed with government forces at Saida Kadal in Srinagar in 1992. (PTK)
