Students complains no heating arrangements in exam centres

SRINAGAR, NOV 03 (PTK): As rains and snow bring down temperatures in Kashmir, students of 10th to 12th classes complained they faced difficulty writing their papers in freezing cold without any heating arrangements in Exams centres.  Students from different parts of Kashmir valley complained of non-availability of heating arrangements in during exams.

Students are not able to focus exam paper as they shiver in classrooms,  the fate of teachers is no different.

“We are not able to write exams paper, we keep shivering inside the classroom when exams started,” said Tabasum Riyaz a student of 12th class.

“We do not have any heating arrangement in exams centres. It becomes very difficult to sit inside the classroom for 3 hours,” she said.

“We have no heating systems put in place by the government. We shiver due to dip in the temperatures, however the government seems to have been little interested in providing some sort of relief to the student community,” students said, adding that despite they making several pleas before the concerned authorities, no heed was paid by them.

A student from Pulwama speaking to News agency Press Trust of Kashmir, on the condition of anonymity said that, “besides erratic electricity supply, we are facing huge hardships in the school during exams.”

“My daughter dressed up early in the morning for exams, but when he came back home in the afternoon he had red hands and a red nose, indicating the winter chill he had suffered at exam centres,” said Riyaz Ahmad.

He added “many of the students have fallen sick after appearing in the examinations because they weren’t provided any heating facility at the centres. When such is the state of government and of education department in Kashmir Valley, how could we look forward for an honest and upright administration”.

A group of parents speaking to News agency Press Trust of Kashmir that authorities should ensure heating facilities for students during exams. We appeal the Director School education and JKBOSE authority to look into the issue personally as the students are suffering, patents said.

It is highly possible that some tainted officials never put in place the heating arrangements and on the contrary show bills of the same and get the funds transferred in their very own pockets. Otherwise, how is this possible that amid such cold temperature, no heating arrangement has been put in place at the examination centres and at schools where kids as old as 3 years went to study,” parents said.

Around 69000 students are appearing for class 12th annual JKBOSE exams, 62000 students for class 11th exams and 55000 students for 1oth class this year.

Meanwhile circular issued by director school education Kashmir, stated the monitoring teams constituted by JKBOSE and the directorate have reported that proper arrangement of heating and lighting have not been put in place at some exam centres “despite clear direction given to them regarding the matter.”

“The sole responsibility on this account lies on the shoulders of the school heads and CEOs where the centres are located as they were expected to make all necessary arrangements in advance,” the circular reads.

“It is impressed upon all CEOs and school heads of both government and private schools to take immediate necessary action in the matter wherever required particularly with regard to lighting and heating arrangements,” reads the DSEK circular, adding the CEOs and school heads will liable for action as warranted in case any complaint about poor arrangement in exam centres.   (PTK)
