SRINAGAR, NOV 02 (PTK): Curfew continued in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district on Friday, a day after unidentified gunmen shot dead BJP state secretary Anil Parihar and his brother, with authorities calling the Army to help maintain calm.
The district administration imposed the curfew soon after the senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and his brother Ajit were fired from close range in Tappal Gali area of Kishtwar town on Thursday night while they were returning home after closing their shop.
Meanwhile Curfew was also imposed in Bhadarwah and Doda towns of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday in view of tension following the killing of a senior BJP leader and his brother in Kishtwar town last night.
Additional District Magistrate Bhadarwah, Dr Ravi Kumar Bharti imposed curfew in Bhadarwah town at 4:30 AM as a “precautionary measure” in view of killings of BJP state secretary Anil Parihar, 52, and his brother, Ajeet Parihar, 55 by unknown gunmen last night.
Because of curfew in Kishtwar, board exams of Higher Secondary Part-I scheduled for Friday were canceled in five centers of the town. However in Bhadarwah, the exam was conducted normally and roll number slips of candidates were treated as curfew passes.
In Bhadarwah, no violent incident was reported but as a precautionary measure the curfew was imposed at 4:30 AM on Friday morning, following which troops of Rashtriya Rifles based at Bhadarwah led by Commander 4 Sector RR took out flag march at 12 PM in the town and its peripheral areas.
However In a significant show of solidarity with the minority community and the bereaved family, Imam Jamia Masjid Kishtwar, Farooq Kitchloo appealed all the Muslims to reach cremation ground to join the last rites of the slain BJP leader and his brother. Kitchloo made the appeal during the congregational Friday prayers.
In Thathri area of Doda, members from both the communities held a protest against the killing of BJP state secretary Anil Parihar, 52, and his brother, Ajeet Parihar, 55 by unknown gunmen last night in Kishtwar. The area also observed shutdown to mourn the killings which have been condemned by both the communities in Kishtwar town. (PTK)
