One of the longest surviving militant commanders, associate slain in Sopore gunfight: Police

SOPORE, OCT 27 (PTK): The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday said that top militant commander Abu Muaaz and his associate Zubair alais Ali Bhai was killed in Friday’s gunfight in Pazalpora area of Sopore in Northern Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

A Police official claimed that it was a huge success for the government forces. “It is a major success for the security forces as Abu Maaz was wanted for his alleged involvement in several killings of civilians, and Special Police Officer of Jammu and Kashmir Police, in the past few years in northern region of Kashmir.

Maaz was the top commander of LeT in Northern Kashmir and featured among the top ten most wanted militants. “He was one of the longest surviving militants and carried reward money of Rs 8 lakh on his head.”

The official said that Muaaz was also involved in the recent civilian killings of Tariq Ahmad Bhat who was abducted first from his shop at Younisa village of Handwara then killed.

According to police sources, both killed militants were buried in Reshiwara, Rajwar area of Handwara late last evening. (PTK)
