SRINAGAR, OCT 23 (PTK): Two militants were killed in a fierce gun-battle with government forces in Kreeri area of this north Kashmir district.
According to reports two militants were killed in an encounter that erupted after army’s 29 RR, special operations group (SOG) of police and CRPF laid a siege around Utoora village of Kreeri here and started search operation.
Reports said that militants hiding in a house opened fire upon the search team in a bid to escape from the cordon. “The fire was retaliated leading to outbreak of encounter. In the exchange of fire, two militants were killed,” reports said.
A police spokesman in a statement said: “Encounter in Kreeri is going on. No militant body has been yet recovered. Social media updates depicting dead bodies of militants are frivolous.” He asked the people not to pay heed to rumours.
Meanwhile violent protests erupted in Kreeri village after killed militants were killed by forces. Scores of residents, mostly youth took to streets in Utoora and its adjoining villages of Kreeri this morning and staged a protest against the ongoing anti-militancy operation. Angry youth shouting pro-freedom slogans pelted rocks at the government forces.
The government forces lobbed tear gas canisters to disperse the stone pelting protesters. Mobile internet service was snapped in this north Kashmir district.
2G, 3G and 4G mobile internet service was snapped by all cellular companies, including the state run BSNL this morning. (PTK)
