Complete showdown observed against militants killing in Valley 

SRINAGAR, OCT 23 (PTK): A complete shutdown was observed across the Valley in response to the call given by joint resistance leadership (JRL) against the killing of top Hizbul Mujahideen militant Sabzar Ahmad Sofi and his associate in an encounter with government forces.

Scholar turned militant Sabzar Sofi and his associate Asif Shergojri were killed in a fierce gun battle at Nowgam on the outskirts of Srinagar on Wednesday. In Srinagar, all shops and fuel stations remained closed in response to the shutdown called by JRL. The strike also witnessed thin flow of traffic on the otherwise busy roads of this capital city.

In Srinagar’s Old City, restrictions were imposed in many areas to foil any protests against the killing of Hizb militants. In Nowhatta, Rajouri Kadal, Saraf Kadal, Maharaj Gunj, Gojwara, Khanyar, Safa Kadal and other areas of the Old City, government forces were keeping a tight vigil to keep protesters at bay, witnesses said. At many places, forces laid razor wire to restrict movement of people.

Meanwhile, reports of a complete shutdown were also received from other major towns of north, south and central Kashmir.The train services from Srinagar to Banihal and Srinagar to Baramulla remains also suspended today, official said. The train services was suspended amid fears of protests against the militant and civilian killings. (PTK)
