SRINAGAR, OCT 22 (PTK): To protest the ‘Bloody Sunday’ that left 07 civilians dead, Kashmir witnesses a complete shutdown today on Monday.
On the shutdown call given by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL)all shops, business establishments, educational institutes, private and government offices remained closed.
For the first time, the Kashmir Pandit Sangharsh Samiti (KPSS) also extends their support to the shutdown call against ‘bloodshed’ in Kulgam.
Curfew-like restrictions were imposed in downtown old city Srinagar. Police official told Press Trust of Kashmir news agency that there was heavy deployment of forces in sensitive areas of Kashmir to prevent the protests.
Local train service from Banihal to Baramulla was suspended and mobile internet service was blocked by the authorities for the second consecutive day in South Kashmir.
Meanwhile the students of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) at Wadoora Sopore staged a protest demonstration against the killings of seven civilian in Kulgam yesterday. Scores of students assembled at the varsity campus and shouted anti-government and pro-freedom slogans.
Seven civilians were killed and several others injured in Larnoo village in a blast at the site of a gunfight yesterday. On Sunday morning, an encounter broke out between government forces and militants in Laroo village of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district. (PTK)
