Srinagar, (PTK): The Congress party on Saturday witnessed an eventful start in the on-going Urban Local Body elections with total wins in over 60 wards so far, giving a big blow to its arch rivals Bhartiya Janta Party.
Congress have secured majority vote counts in districts of Kashmir valley like Uri, Baramulla, Bandipora, Budgam, Banihal and Anantnag, along with a clean sweep in Leh Municipal Committee.
In all the 13 wards of Leh Municipal Committee, Congress emerged victorious. Similarly, in north Kashmir’s Uri, the party won 6 wards, while BJP failed to open its account.
While out of the 25 wards in Anantnag, INC won in 20 of them, whereas BJP could only pull out 3.
In Baramulla and Bandipora, too, BJP won only in 3, losing the constituencies to INC where they were elected in 7 and 12 wards, respectively.
While in Budgam Constituency, INC won 6 wards as BJP secured votes in the rest 4.
