SRINAGAR, OCT 19 (PTK): Suspected militants on Friday attacked a police party in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district resulting in killing of two militants during the shootout.
Police said that suspected militants have attacked a police party near Food Corporation of India in Baramulla, resulting in serious injuries to one cop. Meanwhile, Forces cordoned off the area and launched the manhunt to nab the attackers.
They said that two militants were killed in a brief shootout, near the railway station in Baramulla. Police said that at about 1330 hours one Scorpio vehicle bearing registration number JK 01 L5792 coming from Srinagar side was signalled to stop at Naka near Kralhar, Baramulla manned by a joint team of Police and paramilitary forces.
“While being checked two militants boarding the vehicle fired upon forces party. In the brief exchange of fire both the militants got killed and one policeman received minor injuries,” the statement said.
“The following Arms ammunition was recovered from the possession of killed militants. AK Series Rife 01 No, AK Magzine 01 No, UBGL 01 No, Pistol (Chinese) 02 Nos, Pistol Magazines 06 Nos, AK rounds. 19 Nos, Pistol rounds 52, Grenade 03 Nos, UBGL Grenade -02 Nos,” said police spokesman.
“Case FIR No 176/2008 registered in Police Station Baramulla and investigation taken up,” he said. “Driver of the vehicle has been arrested and the vehicle has been seized,” said police spokesman in a statement. (PTK)
