Kupwara continues to remain shut against Militant’s killing

SRINAGAR, OCT 13 (PTK): A complete shutdown was today observed in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district to mourn the killing of scholar-turned-militant Manan Wani and his aide in a gunfight with the forces.

The shutdown is being observed in Kupwara, Trehgam, Handwara, Lolab and Langate some adjoining areas of the Kupwara district for the second consecutive day.

All business establishments including shops and offices were closed in the district while public transport was also off the roads. Authorities had closed all the schools and colleges in the Kupwara district again today as a precautionary measure. Forces were deployed at many places in order to prevent any untoward incidents, witnesses said.

Meanwhile, people continue to pour in from different areas of Kashmir in the house of scholar rebel Manan Wani and his associate Ashiq Hussian in Langate to express solidarity with their families.

Wani was killed along with his associate in a gunfight at Shatgund village of Handwara on Thursday, October 11, 2018, triggering protests and clashes in many areas of Kashmir. At least over 25 persons were injured in the clashes. (PTK)
