Students of 10th, 12th hit streets against decision of holding exams    

SRINAGAR, OCT 03 (PTK): The students once again took to streets against the government decision of holding examination of class 10th  to 12th from mid-October.

 

Anti-exam protests erupted in different parts of Kashmir valley with students hitting the streets to demand defamation of exams for Class 10th to Class 12th exams. The students were holding placards and banners which read “defer our exams” and “We want Justice.” The protesting students asked the authorities, especially JK Board of School Education (BOSE) to reschedule their exams to mid-November.

 

“Many students were confined to their homes due to the situation of the March to May. They need time to cover the whole syllabus. If they don’t, they may fall behind in percentages which will impact their eligibility for appearing in various competitive exams. This way, the careers of students will take a hit in the long run,” Danish, a Class 12 student said.

 

Our sessions began in May. We have covered just 65 percent of the syllabus. Our internal practical are pending. We are not in a position to qualify for the examinations,” said Mahreen Bhat, a student.

 

She added “there are various competitive examinations. Most of the students wish to qualify them to be a doctor or engineer or to be in other professions. If we fail to obtain required percentage and subsequently are ineligible to appear in these competitive tests, our careers would be at stake”.

 

From past few days’ students take out protests rallies against JKBOSE and DSEK’s decision to conduct 10th to 12th class examinations from 20 Oct across Kashmir valley.

 

Meanwhile students who assembled at Sopore said that “the government should defer the exams till second week of Nov. Our future is uncertain and everyone today in Kashmir especially students are not completed syllabus.” However Jammu and Kashmir police sought permission students to protest in Press Enclave in Srinagar.

 

Students that dozens of students of various schools including the Tyndale Biscoe School, SP Higher Secondary School, Green Valley Educational Institute assembled in press enclave Srinagar. However protest was also held in north Kashmir, south Kashmir and some parts of central Kashmir.

 

The JK Board of School education (BOSE) has scheduled the annual exams for class 10, 11 and 12th from last week of October. Private schools association PRO Bashir Ahmad Shah while taking to Press Trust of Kashmir said that “the announcement has now sparked a political row’.  He added that “we support students demands and demand defer of exam till Nov”.

 

He added that the decision to go ahead with the exam “lacks logic and conviction“. Meanwhile Chairman People Democratic front and MLA Khansahib, Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen support students demand.

 

While talking to Press Trust of Kashmir Hakeem Yaseen said that this year students did not get the proper time due to the situation. “Government should defer exams for the benefits of students”, he said. He added that if students are not ready for exam then why govt is so much interested to conduct exams”. He added that the situation was so bad this year due to which students did not get proper time for preparation.

 

Meanwhile the School Education Department had already said that there will be no deferment of exams and reduction in syllabus of 10th, 11th and 12th class students.    (PTK)
