Hundreds of people took part in mourning on the eve of Ashura (10th Moharam) at walarhama area of south kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Shiite Muslims performed a ritual of self-flagellation with clusters of knives during a religious procession.
During the first ten days of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar, Shiite Muslims mourn in remembrance of the martyrdom of the Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (SAW), killed in a battle in 680 AD.(PTK)
