JAMMU, SEP 17 (PTK): As Historic Ashura Muharram processions from lal chowk are banned in the Kashmir valley since 1989, the Bharatiya Janata Party is considering to revoke ban on such religious occasions after the demand came up at the BJP’s State Executive Committee meeting at Akhnoor in Jammu
The demand of revoking ban on Muharram processions was raised by the BJP’s Yuva Morcha National Vice President Er Aijaz Hussain on Sunday during the meeting.
In a statement to PTK, Er Aijaz said that the BJP passed political resolution in which the issue of revoking ban on Ashura Muharram processions was included by the executive committee.
The executive meeting which was attended by Minister in Prime Minister’s Office Dr Jatinder Singh, MPs and MLAs of BJP besides the top office bearers of the state unit of BJP, unanimously decided to consider revoke ban on the processions in the Valley.
The party will raise the issue with state and central governments for positive consideration.
Er Aijaz said that governments can make adequate security arrangements for the processions for their peaceful passage.
He said that Amaranth Yatra and other religious functions can he held peacefully and governments and security agencies are competent in making security and other arrangements for Muharram processions also.
He said that unlike National Conference, PDP and Congress parties which have exploited minorities in the state and deprived them of their religious and other rights, BJP stands for equality and betterment of all the people in the country irrespective of their religious and political beliefs. (PTK)
