Elections are basic structure of democracy: G M Shaheen

JAMMU, Sep 16 (PTK): The leadership of Janta Dal (United) JD (U) led by its State President G M Shaheen and State Youth President Raja Wasim, today kicks started election campaign in Jammu region ahead of ULB and Panchayat elections and asked the leaders and activists to aware the people of the state pertaining to the policies and programmes of JDU in the state.

Shaheen while addressing the workers committee meeting at Dogra Community Hall, Jammu said, “The Panchayat and municipality elections form the very basic structure of democracy at the ground level. Elections to urban local bodies will boost the democratic fabric of the state by providing administration at the doorsteps of the common individual.”

He added, “The party had formulated a fool-proof strategy to cement party’s win in the local elections. Most of the party leaders agreed that there is aggressive camping for Panchayat elections in Kashmir and a strategy has been chalked out in this regard.”

“The party will also soon announce a committee for Municipal and Panchayat in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions. “State unit of JDU will soon announce names of members of the committee,” Shaheen maintained and adding that members of the committee will visit the targeted areas, note the details of ground situation and requirements and prepare detailed report for discussion ahead of ULB election which is scheduled to hold on October 8 nest month. .

He further disclosed that during a recent meeting at Kashmir in which arrangements for visit of JDU National General Secretary and other National Party leaders were finalised, strategy to contest Panchayat election in Jammu and Kashmir State was also discussed threadbare, strategy to contest Panchayat election in the state was also discussed threadbare.

He said for Jammu, the party has formed committee members for the upcoming Panchayat and municipal elections and added that party leadership has organized 3-days program to visit Kathua, Samba and other districts of the Jammu region as part of election campaign.

State Youth President Raja Wasim, District President Rachpal Singh, Youth Vice-President Kassiv Kumar, Program Orgainser Nigesh Samral and other leaders were also present on the occasion.
