SRINAGAR, SEP 11 (PTK): Contingent Paid Workers of Education Department Monday held a protest demonstration here in Srinagar demanding their wages as per the Labour rate Act of the state.
Scores of protesters from various districts of Kashmir Valley assembled here in Press enclave and shouted slogans against the government for allegedly not fulfilling their “genuine” demands.
The protesters said that they are working in the Education Department from last 15 years and the government is neglecting their demands.
“We are demanding for the wages as per the Minimum wages act, 50% departmental promotions in all districts as per the quota SRO 308 and fixed seniority list of all districts,” President of Contingent Paid Workers, Nazir Ahmad Rather said.
“We have been delivering 24/7 service for a meager amount of rupees 25 to 1000 that too from the last 20 years,” they said.
“We have been discharging the duties in schools on a meager monthly salary of rupees five hundred. The governments should either ensure our regularization or should start engaging people to perform the duties that we have been performing over the years,” Hilal Ahmad said.
“We have lost our respect among our families, our children are taunting us for wasting our life in serving government for free, our grandchildren even make fun of us, but the government has never taken our issues seriously which is really a matter of distress,” he added. The protesters appealed Education Minister to regularize them under Minimum Wages Act.
The protesters threatened to go on hunger strike in case their demands are not fulfilled till September 20. (PTK)
