SRINAGAR, SEP 03 (PTK): A civilian, identified as Fayaz Ahmad Wani, was killed in clashes during a massive search operation by armed forces in South Kashmir’s Pulwama on Monday.
Reports said that protesters hurled stones on the forces’ vehicles during a cordon-and-search-operation in the village. Armed forces clashed with protesters during the search operation in Gusoo village and fired live ammunition on them.
The forces, they said, responded by firing tear gas, pellets and live ammunition. The civilian, Fayaz, son of Muhammad Ahsan Wani of Chewa-Kalan, was injured during the clashes.
Officials in SMHS hospital, said the civilian was declared dead on arrival at the facility. “He had suffered a bullet injury in head.
Earlier, police and Reserve Police Force (RPF) launched a cordon and search operation in 18 villages of Pulwama and Shopian districts in South Kashmir. The search operation was initiated as intelligence team suspects presence of militants in the areas of these two districts.
The forces had launched a cordon in Shopian district on Sunday also after getting relevant inputs about the presence of militants in the area. A search was being carried out in the Laddi Imam Sahab village, when the security forces and the militants entered into a gun fight.
However, the militants managed to escape as a clash erupted between the locals and police forces following a brief gunfight with the militants. (PTK)
