Baramulla, August 29 (PTK): In support of the Article 35A, complete shutdown was observed in Baramulla district of North Kashmir in wake of the shutdown call given by resistance leaders.

A complete shutdown was observed in Baramulla main town and its adjoining areas including sopore town to oppose the abrogation of Article 35A which that empowers the Jammu and Kashmir state’s legislature to define “permanent residents” of the state and provide special rights and privileges to those permanent residents.Earlier the shutdown call was given by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) for August 30 and 31 for the protection of Article 35A.

All shops, business establishments and Schools including GDC Boys Baramulla, GDC Women Baramulla, GDC Sopore, Saint Josephs Baramulla, Baramulla Public School, SRM Welkim Sopore etc remained closed in the district while as transport also remained off the roads.
It is pertinent to mention that after many petitions had challenged Article 35A in the Supreme Court, a three-judge bench of the apex court is scheduled to hear the case on Friday. (PTK)
