SRINAGAR, (PTK): The weather along the NHW is partially cloudy presently. The commuters are advised to confirm status of the road from Traffic Control Units at Srinagar, Ramban, Jammu and PCR Jammu before starting journey on the NHW as chances of occurring of sudden landslides/shooting stones at vulnerable/landslide prone areas during night hours cannot be ruled out.
Keeping in view the over all condition of the road, especially between Jawahar Tunnel and Ramban coupled with narrow width of the NHW at some places, allowing two way movement of HMVs on the NHW is not feasible.
Therefore, subject to fair weather and good condition of the road, in order to facilitate the passengers and emergency vehicles, tomorrow on 29.08.2018, movement of passenger vehicles/LMVs on the NHW shall be allowed both ways viz. from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa. However, the commuters are requested/advised that avoid travelling during night hours.
The movement of Load Carriers shall be one way only. Tomorrow on 29.08.2018 movement of these vehicles shall be allowed from Srinagar towards Jammu and shall be regulated from Levdora, Qazigund itself and shall not be allowed to halt between Jawahar Tunnel to Nashri Tunnel. However, Heavy Vehicles carrying fruit, fresh and other perishable items will be allowed from the opposite side of permitted HV movement only before 8 AM in the morning and after 6 PM in the evening from Levdora and Jakheni Udhampur.
No vehicular movement between Nashree Tunnel and Jawahar Tunnel from 2300 hours to 0400 hours as tunnel will remain closed for few days to give sufficient time to construction companies to repair the Magarkot and Digdol like slide points. So no vehicle will be allowed from Levdora and Jakheni between 2100 hours to 0200 hours.
Moreover, the commuters are advised to exhibit highest order of driving discipline on the NHW in general and while crossing Chenani-Nashri Tunnel in particular. They shall avoid overtaking, over speeding, doubling, especially inside the tunnel and adhere to the road signs and instructions/ Do’s and Don’ts displayed on either sides of the Tunnel for their safe crossing and hassle free movement of traffic inside the tunnel tubes.
No movement of load carriers and convoys of Army, BSF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB etc. shall be allowed from opposite side under any circumstances in order to ensure smooth flow of traffic on the NHW.
All the Dy.SsP/DTIs are directed that vehicles are not parked in any landslide/ vulnerable zone of NHW, especially from Jawahar Tunnel – Ramban and Jawahar Tunnel-Lower Munda under any circumstances. The said road stretches are vulnerable/slide prone zones and therefore should be kept free from all sorts of traffic to avoid any eventuality.
People are requested to undertake journey on the National Highway only after confirming status of the road from TCU Srinagar (01942450022, 2485396), TCU Ramban (9419993745), TCU Jammu (01912459048, 9419147732) and PCR Jammu (0191-2544581, 2542000, 2542001, 2560401, 1090).
