SRINAGAR: Normal life in valley remained disrupted on Monday as a complete shutdown is being observed across the valley, while authorities imposed restrictions in many parts of the Srinagar city.
The movement of people and transport is less due to apprehensions of law and order on the subject of Article 35A.
All commercial units, filling pumps and Educational institutions are closed following the shutdown call given by Joint Resistance Leadership.
The two-day statewide shutdown from 5 August has been called by pro freedom leaders Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik under the banner of Joint Resistance Leadership. Various organizations including Bar Association, traders ‘and transport bodies have extended their support to the JRL’s shutdown call.
Protest have been held across length and breadth of Kashmir over the past few days with mainstream parties like National Conference and PDP also holding rallies in support of continuing with Article 35 A.
Authorities on Sunday, 5 August, decided to temporarily suspend the ongoing Amarnath Yatra from Jammu to the cave shrine in the Kashmir Valley for two days due to the separatist-called protest shutdown.
According to the police, no pilgrim was allowed to move from the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas.
However, pilgrims camped at the Baltal and Pahalgam base camps in the Kashmir Valley will continue to perform the Yatra, officials said.
The Srinagar-Banihal train services have been suspended across Kashmir, keeping in view of the shutdown call. “We have suspended all trains between Srinagar-Budgam-in central Kashmir to Baramulla in north Kashmir today,” a Railway official said.
Similarly, no train will chug on Budgam-Srinagar-Islamabad-Qazigund in south Kashmir and Banihal in Jammu region, he said.
