Srinagar, August 02 (PTK): Students of Government Degree College Baramulla complained about the harassment on the context of morality by the discipline committee.
The local students from GDC Baramulla have strongly reacted to the dress code controversy and many other Do’s and Dont’s of Govt Degree College Baramulla. They see it as a clamp down on their right to decide for themselves what is good and the bad.
As per Do’s and Dont’s order issued by the authorities, students are asked to be in a proper prescribed uniform and boys are directed to have formal haircut.
The list directs male and female students not to ‘remain in any objectionable position’ and also asked girls not to carry any objectionable items to college.
It futher reads that all the students must wear the College issued I Cards in the College siege.
“It is totally ridiculous that a student of College level is asked to have a formal haircut and hung I Card in the college premise, we are sophomores not kids” said a student of 3rd semeter who didnt wished to be named.
One of the Students of Department of Media Studies said, “I have never heard of students of Bachelors college being judged by their dress. The college staff is very strict and scolds students if they see anyone wearing a sleeveless dress even in summer and have a sports shoe.
While taking to PTK a 4th sememter student said ” we are mature enough to abide by the rules and discipline of the college, professors being rude all the time wont give a better outcome”. They must be compassionate and loving in nature ti win the hearts of Students.
” Despite of having authority assignment Cards sanctioned by the concerned HOD and Principal, students are being questioned on every corner of college, especially when groups comprise of Girl students” said another student of Media Department.
“If we walk together with our female friends and classmates or go to the canteen or even work on any assignments together, we are questioned at every step and asked to disperse, this is a co-education college how is it possible a student wont talk to the female classmates” said a 1st semester student.
Another student from Media Studies while taking to PTK said “we are always under the eyes of authorities and have became the main targets of whole teaching staff of other departments and non teaching staff due to our frank behavior which is obvious as being Journalism Students. “They have a sense of hatred for us” he added.
When PTK contacted concerned Principal F.R. Beigh he didnot responded to our continuous calls(PTK)
