Srinagar residents face acute shortage of drinking water

SRINAGAR, JUL 31 (PTK): Residents of Saif-Ud-Din Pora Rajouri Kadal old city in Srinagar are facing tough time due to acute shortage of drinking water.

Locals accused the Public Health and Engineering (PHE) Department of being indifferent towards their problems. Locals from the Rajouri Kadal told Press Trust of Kashmir (PTK) that they are facing shortage of water and the authorities are doing nothing.

“Our area is without tap water for the last few days. We brought into the notice of concerned officials many a days but nobody is paying heed to our repeated pleas,” residents of Rajouri Kadal told PTK.

A group of local said that “We appealed the PHE authorities a number of times in person and in written but they have failed to restore the problem”.

The non-availability of proper drinking water is giving tough time to the residents. Despite being close to city center, department has failed to provide safe drinking causing inconvenience to the people.

“It is unfortunate, due to tap water shortage people use tube well water in the locality,” he said.

They also said that the people are having apprehensions of being infected by water borne disease including hepatitis and typhoid due to unsafe drinking.  (PTK)
