SRINAGAR, JULY 19 (PTK): The New Type Primary Health Centre (NTPHC) at Vijpara village of Hajin of north Kashmiri’s Bandipora district ironically is run by nursing orderly instead of any specialised doctor.
The village which consists of nearly ten thousand populations has been suffering from the shortage of a specialised doctor. Villagers said that the irony of the fact is that the Nursing orderly has been performing the doctors duty at the centre.
As per the medical rules, an NTPHC health centre must be consists of a specialist doctor and some technicians as well like X-ray , technician and lab technician but the centre is not even having a specialised doctor and other facilities are far away even from the imagination.
However, two months ago, a medical assistant was transferred from the area but since then no posting was done. The post is still vacant and nobody is there to look after the patients.
The locals said that if the doctor is not deputed here within a week we will hit the streets and if any thwart incident happens it will be wholly and solely the responsibility of the district administration.
“We have been suffering now since two months as there is no doctor to look after the patients said a local Mr Nazir Ahmad who also added that we are forced to take our patients nearly ten Kms away from the locality.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Nursing Orderly are specifically meant for bedding and cleaning in the hospital and are without any training which clearly indicates that they can neither treat nor they can write prescriptions but in this Newly Primary Health Centre at this north Kashmiri’s Bandipora district the matter is reversible.
When contacted BMO Hajin Dr Tariq he told Press Trust of Kashmir that, “We have an acute shortage of doctors in Hajin block”. He said that yesterday they ordered for the posting of Medical assistant in the area, and he will join his duties with a day or so.
In the meantime, when contacted Chief Medical Officer Bandipora, Dr Bilkees Mir, said,” In my knowledge there was a doctor. How the doctor was transferred from the centre I have no knowledge.” (PTK)
