SRINAGAR, (PTK): Days after G Parthasarathy’s appointment as chancellor of the Central University of Jammu, Army veteran Lt General Syed Ata Hasnain(retd) has been named chancellor of the Central University of Kashmir.
According to the report of ET President Ram Nath Kovind, who is the visitor to all central universities, has cleared the appointments. While Parthasarathy succeeds J&K governor NN Vohra as chancellor to the varsity, Hasnain will replace founding chancellor and renowned nuclear scientist Srikumar Banerjee. The appointments are of particular significance, especially in the light of the increasing alienation of the Kashmiri youth and record recruitment drives by terror groups over the last few months, with institutes and campuses also becoming preying grounds. Both the new chancellors have a history with Kashmir and Pakistan. Gopalaswami Parthasarathy has served as the high commissioner of India to Pakistan from 1998-2000 when the infamous Kandahar hijack tested the Vajpayee regime.
