Restrictions in Srinagar parts ahead of Wani’s death anniversary

SRINAGAR, JULY 06 (PTK):Authorities on Friday imposed restrictions in Nowhatta area of Srinagar city ahead of the second death anniversary of Hizbul ‘commander’ Burhan Wani.

Due to the restrictions, there were no Friday prayers offered in historic Jamia Masjid.

Restrictions have been imposed in police station Nowhatta area since morning however the restrictions were suddenly extended to Gojwara, Rajori Kadal, Bohori Kadal and Naid Kadal areas.

Meanwhile Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik was arrested from his Maisuma residence in Srinagar.

A spokesman said that a police party reached at the residence of Malik and detained him.

However chief Mirwaiz Umar Farooq also place under house arrest to prevent him from leading any rallies on the second death anniversary of slain militant commander Burhan Wani.

A police party arrived at theNigeen residence of the Mirwaiz early in the morning and put him under house confinement, said a spokesman.

The arrest comes just two days ahead of second death anniversary of militant commander Burhan Wani whose death triggered an uprising in 2016.

Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik has called for a Kashmir-wide shut down and a public meeting at Wani’s native Tral area on July 8. (PTK)
