JAMMU, (PTK): The J&K Congress has unanimously decided to project Ghulam Nabi Azad, the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, as the CM candidate for the next elections in the state.
In a meeting held on Wednesday in Srinagar, the party demanded fresh elections for letting people vote and elect their government. Also, at the same time, the party looked divided on the issue of government formation.
The other section apprehended that BJP can engineer defections in PDP to bring about another government. They demanded that party should prevent BJP from doing this, as it is probably trying to form a government.
Few PDP leaders have already raised voice against former CM Mehbooba Mufti, for taking some decisions they do not favour and then resigning from the government. Senior BJP leader and former Deputy CM, Kavinder Gupta, has also said that his party is exploring the possibilities of forming a government.
BJP General Secretary, Ram Madhav has visited Srinagar and is expected to visit again to meet various legislators. State’s anti-defection law, which is different from the central law, does not apply if there’s a split in a party. Otherwise, the legislators who leave their party can be dismissed by the Speaker.
It remains to be seen what actions will their party take if their legislators rebel to join BJP.
