Srinagar, June 30(PTK): While doctors day will be celebrated on July 1 across the country, Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Saturday said we have no reason to celebrate doctors day as we are not even allowed to express our free opinion.
“We have nothing to celebrate at a place where we are punished for raising voice against the sufferings and miseries of patients,” said DAK President Dr Nisar ul Hassan in a communiqué.
“I was victimized for highlighting the illegal trade of spurious drugs in the valley to which many precious lives were lost,” he said.
Dr Nisar said he was suspended in May 2014 for unearthing a big spurious drug scandal in which some higher ups were involved.
“Lakhs of tablets of fake drug maximizin, a life-saving antibiotic were supplied to government hospitals. Following expose of this fake drug, hundreds of drugs which were consumed by patients were declared substandard,” he said.
Dr Nisar said people used to visit the Valley hospitals with a hope to get treated, but instead they were given poison.
He said his efforts in this regard should have been applauded, but instead false and frivolous cases were fabricated against him.
“I was subjected to a reign of terror and subjugation for spearheading a campaign against fake drug perpetrators who are roaming free,” he added.
Dr Nisar said it is an inherent right of a citizen to inform and sensitize the general masses of people about the insidious machinations of the powers that be.
“My suspension is against the freedom of speech and expression which is an inalienable right in a liberal democracy,” he said.
“The continued suspension is vindictiveness of certain forces behind the curtain and is simply a means to deter me from raising voice against legitimate grievances,” said Dr Nisar(PTK).
