Jammu has been experiencing very hot summer days, with very less moisture. The South-westerly winds have brought with them dust and other suspended particles from Rajasthan and adjoining areas, leading to a dust storm in most parts of Jammu Division.
According to the IMD, the dust storm is likely to subside, under the influence of the western disturbances.
The common adverse effects of dust storms on human health are throat irritation, decreased lung function, sneezing, lung inflammation, irritated eyes, dizziness, anxiety, insomnia etc.
The following tips may be followed, in order to protect oneself from the harmful effects of haze:
- Avoid outdoor activities, especially outdoor sports that involve heavy breathing.
- Close all windows and doors that may allow dust storm to enter your home and offices.
- Drink more water and increase the intake of fresh fruits and vegetables.
- Wear a good quality anti-pollution and anti-dust mask, when going outdoors.
- If suffering from respiratory disease, take medication regularly.
