Braid chopping has exposed govt’s inability to safeguard dignity of citizens: Monga

SRINAGAR | OCT 08 (PTK): Stating that PDP-BJP government has failed on all fronts, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) vice president and MLC G N Monga today said the latest issue of braid chopping incidents has exposed the government’s inability to safeguard the dignity of its citizens.

In a statement issued to PTK, he said, “It is no secret that this government (PDP-BJP alliance) has failed on all fronts. But the latest issue of braid chopping in which the dignity of our daughters, sisters, and mothers are being compromised, the government is acting as a mute spectator. It has left people across the state and especially in Kashmir Valley in the grip of fear and terror.”

“While dozens of braid chopping incidents have been reported in the recent days, the government had failed even to arrest one culprit. It shows the inability and incompetence of this government. The fear of braid choppers has terrorised people to the extent that young girls prefer to either stay at home or return early as their parents are worried,” Monga said.

While strongly condemning these incidents he asked the government to gear up its resources to deal with the challenge as mere statements and assurances won’t help. “Only assurances and announcements won’t help as these incidents are repeated with greater frequency. People in these areas are terrified and administration must take tangible steps to restore the confidence of the people,” he demanded. (PTK)
